Ronda was a recipient of the Didi Hirsch’s 2014 Erasing the Stigma Leadership Awards – an event held annually to honor advocates of mental health. The #ErasingTheStigma event held on April 24, 2014, celebrated the social media revolution by honoring men and women who harness the power of social media to accelerate change and help erase the stigma of mental illness.
#ErasingTheStigma supports the work of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, which helps children, families and adults struggling with mental illness and substance abuse and runs the Suicide Prevention Center, the first in the United States to establish a 24-hour crisis line.
Each year, the crisis line responds to more than 55,000 calls, chats and texts in English and Spanish. Support for suicide prevention is needed and you can help by registering, donating or volunteering for Didi Hirsch’s Alive & Running 5K Walk/Run for Suicide Prevention at www.aliveandrunning.org.
Ronda also launched her “DNB” charity shirt where a portion of proceeds went to Didi Hirsch 501c3 for their work in mental health services & for women with body image Issues.
“I have this one term for the kind of woman my mother raised me to not be, and I call it a do nothing b*tch. A DNB. The kind of chick that just tries to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else. That’s why I think it’s hilarious if my body looks masculine or something like that. Listen, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than f*cking millionaires doesn’t mean it’s masculine. I think it’s femininely badass as f*ck because there’s not a single muscle on my body that isn’t for a purpose, because I’m not a do nothing b*tch.” – Ronda Rousey
Check out my first ever limited edition shirt! Don’t be a #DNB 👊 http://t.co/YCZuFVhRD7 pic.twitter.com/SASb2vHjl9
