In case you haven’t heard, “The Supernova from Moldova” captured the women’s TUF ‘N’ UFF Featherweight championship last night in convincing fashion over Tabitha Patterson at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. If you blinked you might have missed it, as Marina executed a truly impressive submission win only :59 seconds into the first round via a standing Arm-Triangle Choke. Marina took a few punches right at the beginning of the round but her focus was simply unmatched as she closed the distance and eventually earned the submission. An elated Shafir was embraced by TUF18 teammates Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler who cornered Marina during this fight. Whereas tomorrow, Baszler will be cornering Jessamyn Duke during the TUF18 Finale. As Shayna indicated the bonds that were created during the filming of TUF18 was an experience of a lifetime, and they continue to live that dream this weekend.
I think Marina has made a strong case for going professional with an amateur record of 4-0 and not of the fights going past the first round, and only one of those fights going past the first minute. Does this sound familiar to anyone… who does this remind you of?
On behalf of Armbar Nation we would like to congratulate Marina!
